Santiago Chile,an innovation centre called Social Lab,where a Chilean Naval Engineer, industrial Designer and Forestry Engineer, have perfected the design of a machine, using condensation to collect water from the surrounding air----Runs from electricity, but even in remote or desert regions will run from a solar panel, even in hot arid regions will extract enough water ,certainly to sustain life.In more clement surroundings it will deliver nine to thirty litres of water daily. Water which is...

dishwashers are as big a contributor to fatbergs as anything else.Millions of greasy plates dishes and even pans are popped in and all the fat is wabhed into the system.A well known product makes a fortune telling you how to clean your filthy dishwasher.does everyone think it stops there.

i think it would be a good idea if the water companies got together to publish a Nationally Distributed Comic like the Beano. They could build on the Idea of Aquaman and Walter and Wally or meanies called Blocker ,Squidgy,or some such name. Each region could have a Hero or Villain  or both. With Expert Cartoonists and continuing Story lines,it would go a BOMB.

Because this is on water litter though not loo specific, can not see either of the other two categories been more relevant.Site guardians rule and move if necessary.                                                                                                                      Do not wash away fat,oil or greasy plates down your sink.Itcan solidify in your pipes like a block of Lard, thus creating a blockage, stopping waste water draining away, possibly causing it to back up through your...

15% Of blockages are caused by Fat,Oil or grease being washed down plugholes and through Dishwashers.                                                                  30% Qf blockages are caused by wipes and other Sanitary products[items] being flushed down the toilet.                                                                                     Stopping these two activities alone would prevent almost half the blockages occurring, showing the huge amount of public awakening needed to...

If as parents and grandparents we truly believe that, then we have the perfect solution within our grasp. The water companies are huge landowners, and unlike the old days when access was restricted now welcome visitors.Pack a hamper and take the young ones off to visit a reservoir, where not only will they experience the beauty of nature but can have lots of fun. There are walking  and cycling trails picnic areas etc. You will be able to show them where their water comes from.not just the tap,and...

The water companies of great Britain & N.I.,Joined together to represent the Industry would form a very strong grouping.Strong enough to lobby all M.P.s and the relevant Minister of State,to bring together resources to tackle some of the urgent and critical problems facing the Industry and Nation. Water will be the new gold..

I appeal,to whomsoever,ChloeB,KatieW,TO ALLOW THE BROADENING of this debate to include waste dumped in all sewage,as drains quite often have as many items deposited in them as do loos.Especially the newer long kerb drains, causing blokages just as dangerous and costly as do loos.

Most of us seem to be aware that as humans we are a huge percentage WATER..so essential for us to function. All our fluids, blood, urine, saliva, tears, gastric and pancreatic fluids, amniotic fluid in mothers and even fluid retained abnormally as fluid on the knee or in blisters are provided by water. This is why if you dehydrate you can soon become ill as functions close down, and it is so important to maintain your water intake.

In the modern N.H.S.,in Maternity units throughout Britain there is a growth in the use of water in birthing pools,to allow Mothers the choice to have a more relaxed and natural delivery for their child[children] one which is better for the new infant as well. In fhe two Hospitals where i am a governor[Membership Councillor] they are a huge hit.

Perhaps the bad,or profligate habits we carry through our lives are from ignorance of the facts or from lessons we never learned in the first place.                   Perfectly summed up in the words of Charles Aznavour.in his classic song"Yesterday When I Was Young"---------   ....and  all the conversations i can now recall.,concern themselves with me,me,me and nothing else at all.>> Oh the arrogance of youth. As we grow older, wiser and more mellow, and if we see these traits of waste...

Perhaps hosepipe manufacturers could at the business end install a meter to, measure usage in liters, similar to those on an air hose at garages, and sell as an accessory for all who already have hoses.

Can we not consider ourselves very lucky in the fact that the British Isles is indeed one big oasis, and so where ever we go.virtually, water is on tap readily available at all times. Thus taken for granted and wasted by so many in so many ways as discussed on this site.==============Just spare a thought and realisation to how precious a "commodity" this really is. In MANY desert countries an oasis really is a giver of life, and for many who followed a false image,MIRAGE.LIVES WERE INDEED LOST.

Getting back to basics[ sorry!i hate that phrase].If you think of several hundred resevoirs throughout the british isles. The Kielder resevoir being i believe larger than any of the lake district lakes, whick=h are also tapped, the rest of the Welsh and English lakes, large and small rivers, saline plants artesian and old fashioned wells,, put them together and what have you got,That  "is a lot of water.

Essential for birds to keep their plumage clean, and wonderful and amusing to watch. Amazing what else use it for refreshment.Squirrels and foxes to name two.Water the lifegiver goes on and on.People have got to start appreciating what they take for granted. It may not always be so especially, for the younger ones among you.

I attend a lot of conferences ,seminars and committee meetings, and interviewing panels where bottledwater now seems standard. The number that are left half or three quarters full is outstanding. Unbelieveable waste. I always take my unfinished bottle home.

People often say,why bother, every body wastes water. of course ,as this site shows that is not true, and every little helps. If the60plus million in Britain saved one cup a day only ,the amount would be staggering.------Every marathon starts with a single stride.

The best idea,or way,as we can't make it happen,is for Mother nature to intervene,as she often does.If because of changimg weather patterns we got a prolonged[3 months] dry spell. We would start with bans, broken by many. Then stand pipes, where you have to wait in line to get what YOU could carry. Then water bowsers were you would be given a daily ration.Just about enough for a families  needs for drinking, with perhaps enough for a flannel to wipe yourself.NOshowers,no loos, but chemical ones...

Many people go about their daily lives just doing what is best for them, not giving any thought to consequences.Consequently water is just another throw away commodity, and wasted at will.

I was brought up to believe that moderation in all things is a good way to proceed through life. That does not inhibit you,but forestalls a lot of problems. If everyone moderated their use of water the savings would be immense.

Sorry KatieW got to add this one.Last night i watched the coming of age movie,"Summer of 42 "[1971]. For the last ten minutes or so of the movie there is very little sound other than the breaking waves on the beach. So enchanting and restful reminding me of how many times in my life the sound of water has relaxed and replenished me.It really brought home to me how much appreciation is due to water, especially in movement.

One  time to really appreciate cold, fresh and pure running water at home on tap,is if you ever scald.or burn yourself.it is then when a constant stream of cold water for as long as it takes is needed. You really do appreciate this resource so taken for granted at times like this.

What a beautiful sight when the early morning sun catches the dew on a meadow,or the dewdrops on flowers, and perhaps most beautiful of all when it exposes the delicacy and intrecasy of a spiders web.
