At the end of the day I think that people need to see a bigger reason to save water. Just looking at our own households can make us forget the wider picture and how important water actually is. I know sometimes it is rather cliched, but the people in Africa who do not have clean water would really be bothered if they knew just how much water gets wasted in developed countries. Every drop of water is precious to some of these places and some people can't even be bothered to turn off a tap!

Educating people about the effects of putting other things down the toilet would help. Putting things down the toilet is like 'out of sight out of mind'

The amount of had and electricity that homes use is recorded, water should be able to be recorded in the same way. Knowing how much water you use is a crucial step in starting to know where to save and cut back.

I think if there was to be some sort of award Floyd saving water then people would be more likely to take parT. Saving water doesn't exactly take up a lot of time, it is more about the effort than the time required really.

It would be cool if the toilet could speak, maybe it could challenge us as to what we are putting down it....'Are you sure that belongs in here?' lol :-)

I know that these days some things seem like a lot of effort. People may leave the tap running while they are cleaning their teeth rather than turning it off, just for the fact that it requires effort to do it! If some taps were on a sensor then this could be avioded and water could be saved. Maybe just the taps on the bathroom sinks? If the ones on the bath and kitchen sink were then that could cause a problem if the tap kept turning off!

There is a smart meter for gas and electricity, so what is stopping them bringing out a smart meter for water consumption? That would help make people more aware.

I think that if there was more of a motivation to saving water then people would want to do it more. Another issue is, people like me who don't have a water meter fitted just pay a set amount each month regardless of how much water is used, there is absolutely no incentive there to use water sparingly.  If everybody had a water meter and just paid for what they used then I think that would make people more aware of wasting water.

Nowadays all that goes down our toilet is the normal stuff. However, back in the days when I had a tropical fish tank if a fish died we would flush it down the toilet, there are only so many things you can bury in the garden! The fish went on to a watery grave. I have no idea about what people I know put down their toilets, I can't say that it really comes up much in conversation......lol :-)

I know how obsessed everyone is with technology these days (me included!). Using an app would be a great way to monitor your water usage, if it was pre programmed with the things that everyone does to use water, it could be totalled up how much water that you use. Then translate that into something that people can relate to...how many buckets or baths full. It is hard to imagine an amount of water when it is given in litres.
