With all this talk of water saving.  Does anyone know if we have a Water Aware day, I think there is one for the dangers of water but not for saving water.

For all the other awareness days the country and the world has why not a water aware day.

And as many others have suggested this should start in our schools, I bet children today can come up with some fantastic ideas.

Louis Allen Mar 17, 2015

thats a great idea a bit like comic relief day but for water could be very effective

Janet Bradley Mar 17, 2015

Looks like there is a World Water Day

http://www.unwater.org/water-cooperation-2013...d-water-day/en/

Plus, seems some communities like in California have their own Water Awareness Days

http://www.smwd.com/community/water-awareness-day.html

These things must work, and if schools could participate would be very helpful.

Andrew O'Connor Mar 17, 2015

interesting to know

Kathryn Leaning Mar 17, 2015

So this World Water day needs to be promoted more in the UK and like louisdavidallen says if its a day like comic relief I'm sure people would want to get involved more.

Janet Bradley Mar 17, 2015

It is often about how well these things are advertised... often you need celebrities or the media to be behind something for it to get the advertising it needs and warrants.

Andrew O'Connor Mar 17, 2015

true, people would pay more attention to a famous face compared to a company owner for example

Janet Bradley Mar 17, 2015

Celebrities often will have far more facebook or twitter followers for example, so just one tweet from a celebrity would increase awareness.

Kathryn Leaning Mar 17, 2015

I suddenly remembered that there was a World Toilet Day last year too - I saw comments about it on the BBC website

http://www.wateraid.org/uk/get-involved/world...CFdLKtAodijIA2g

This was more about how many have really poor toilet facilities - looking on the website, this year they pulled out all the stops to get this information across - getting comics behind it even. The same concept needs to be used for a Water Awareness day

Kathryn Leaning Mar 17, 2015

Is good they are using celebrities to promote it although I had never heard of it until I read the post.  I think one of the big energy companies is currently using comedians in their adverts to promote how they are standing up for customers.

I have not seen that about the energy companies, but the fact that it has attracted an audience will have emphasised the points they want to make to a significant portion of the country.

Louis Allen Mar 17, 2015

i remember on comic relief some celebrities went to some countries and helped build new toilets and facilities

George Richardson Mar 17, 2015

Perhaps they need to do some hear as toilet facilities are appaling in many places. As a teenager, working in a record shop as a Saturday job until 6-0pm. In Huddersfield you could then go  to the Market square Gentlemens Toilets and for 2d   [real money]you could get a wash and brush up and a Threepenny bit  would buy a shave towels provided. Then ready to go for a meal and Hit the Town. Believe it or not in those days were just as busy as London.

Janet Bradley Mar 17, 2015

Try the loos at Harrods - you have to pay, but they are worth paying for!!

Hannah Smith Mar 17, 2015

I think some schools do these! It's a good idea though.. like Earth Day where everyone switches their lights off for an hour.

Janet Bradley Mar 17, 2015

Yes, that's a good point - combine with the fill the bath, and don't use any other water for the day idea!

Louis Allen Mar 17, 2015

earth day sounds good where does that occur?

George Richardson Mar 22, 2015

Somewhere on Earth.
